Volunteers 1914 – 1918 badges

Citizens Volunteer Force (Winston’s Bobbies) badge. Armed force formed by Winston Churchill in 1911 following the Sydney Street Siege. This Armed paramilitary force of patrotic volunteers was raised to support the Metropolitan Police in protecting life and property during times of civil strife. It wore the badge at Cox 2030 in white metal. On the outbreak of war, part of the volunteer Civil Force was embodied as a labour battalion and most of the remaining personnel were absorbed by the 28th County of London Battalion (Artists Rifles). The V. C. F. was not reformed after the war. They did service on the Western Front.
